Kristine Reeves has a passion for youth and minority political involvement, and through her work as Chair of the Democratic Party in Spokane, Washington, helped organize the largest caucus turnout in her county. Camp Wellstone facilitated her completion of successful projects by understanding the major picture. She finds herself continuously going back to the Camp Wellstone manual received during training for strategies to keep her efforts advancing forward. Camp Wellstone not only taught Kristine how the nuts and bolts of political action works, but led her to take charge of the processes in her community.
Kristine relies heavily on Camp Wellstone's message box tool, fundraising, and developing a marketing strategy. She practices the training technique of canvassing voters and contacts, "especially priority canvasses." She finds the "Get out the Vote" (GOTV) activities to be useful as well.
Many people attending their first Camp Wellstone have had previous political training. Kristine is one of those graduates. She has participated in other training sessions, but says that "from all the trainings, Camp Wellstone was the most constructive, realistic involvement, real work experience" she has ever been involved in, "offering tools that will actually help you," such as "county level campaign organizing and effectively using progressive ballot measures." Before attending training, Kristine admits she "didn't really understand the behind the scenes format" of a campaign. After training, she has the confidence and knowledge to delve into all layers of political organizing and heartily encourages her interns to go to Camp Wellstone.
