Simi hails from St. Paul's West Side and was active in the arts throughout her schooling. She now lives in South Minneapolis and is a full time, second year college student studying Cultural Anthropology. Simi has spent over 3 years working for YO the Movement, a youth-run, youth-led nonprofit organization. She worked as the coordinator of the EYS (Express Yourself) Committee, YO's youth board. As the coordinator she aided in the development of its members' leadership and organizing skills, as well as planning and executing YO's programming and events. This includes many successful events and collaborations based around empowering young people and creating safe spaces to build community through hip hop and the arts. Nasimiyu has a focus in social justice organizing.
